George J. Terwilliger III was the 26th Deputy Attorney General of the United States. He served as the Department’s second-ranking official from April 1992 to January 1993.

At the time of his nomination as Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Terwilliger was Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General. Prior to this, he served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Vermont (1986 to 1990), First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Vermont (1986), and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Vermont (1981 to 1986). In 1988, he was appointed to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys, subsequently becoming an elected vice chairperson of that body. From 1978 to 1981, Mr. Terwilliger was Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

A native of New Jersey, Mr. Terwilliger graduated from Seton Hall University (B.A., 1973) and Antioch School of Law (J.D., 1978).
