Should Banking Be Kept Separate From Commerce : Description Of Figure 1 : Number And Total Assets Of ILCs, A Graph


Figure 1 shows both the number and total assets of ILCs for the years 1987 through 2006 (as of March 31, 2006). There were a little more than 100 ILCs in 1987. The number then declined steadily to fewer than 60 in 1996, after which the number stabilized and rebounded slightly to 60 in 2005 and 2006. Figure 1 shows that the total assets of ILCs have grown steadily over the period, from about $4 billion in 1987 to more than $155 million in 2006. Asset growth was particularly rapid between 1997 and 2001, when the total assets of ILCs rose from about $20 billion in 1996 to nearly $90 billion in 2001.
