VOLUNTEER
INTERNSHIPS
The
Office of Immigration Litigation offers unpaid internships for law
students year-round. Interns are assigned to one of OIL's 7 litigation
teams and work under the supervision of the team's Assistant Director
and Senior Litigation Counsel. During the school year, interns may
be assigned to draft motions for appellate or district court cases,
perform review of administrative records, conduct various research
projects, and draft appellate briefs, as time permits. Schedules
for school year interns are flexible, but 15-20 hours per week is
recommended. Summer interns, who work full time, will primarily
draft appellate briefs as well as perform the tasks of school year
interns. Summer interns also benefit from a comprehensive intern
program, which includes client visits (such as a tour of Dulles
Airport Inspections, a tour of the Board of Immigration Appeals,
and a visit to Immigration Court in Arlington) as well as social
activities and softball games.
Interested
applicants should send a resume and writing sample to Deputy Director,
Office of Immigration Litigation, Civil Division, U.S. Department
of Justice, P.O. Box 878 Ben Franklin Station, Washington DC 20044.
Applicants who are offered positions will be required to undergo
a background investigation.
