ABSTRACT: The Office of the Deputy Attorney General is responsible for the processing and tracking of all political appointees for the Department of Justice. The Political Appointee Tracking System (PATS) is an automated information system which provides information on not only current and pending political appointees, but also those already on board and those no longer with the government.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the PATS system is to track all political appointees within the Department of Justice.

ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: PATS is only available to a restricted number of ODAG personnel and is protected through password access.

USE CONSTRAINTS: Users of PATS are restricted to only those with a need- to- know, and the privileges necessary to either update or view information.

AGENCY PROGRAM: The Office of the Deputy Attorney General, working in conjunction with the White House, screens, processes, and hires political appointees for the Department of Justice. All political appointee actions start with, or come through, the Office of the Deputy Attorney General. We must be able, at any time, to provide reports or status to the White House, the Deputy Attorney General, or the Attorney General on status of political appointees. We can access PATS by name and/or social security number.

SOURCES OF DATA: The primary source of information contained in PATS is personal information on each individual, along with the information pertinent to the position he or she holds.
