ABSTRACT: The Office of the Deputy Attorney General is responsible for the processing and
tracking of all political appointees for the Department of Justice. The Political Appointee
Tracking System (PATS) is an automated information system which provides information on not
only current and pending political appointees, but also those already on board and those no
longer with the government. PURPOSE: The purpose of the PATS system is to track all political appointees within the
Department of Justice. ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: PATS is only available to a restricted number of ODAG personnel
and is protected through password access. USE CONSTRAINTS: Users of PATS are restricted to only those with a need- to- know, and
the privileges necessary to either update or view information. AGENCY PROGRAM: The Office of the Deputy Attorney General, working in conjunction
with the White House, screens, processes, and hires political appointees for the Department of
Justice. All political appointee actions start with, or come through, the Office of the Deputy
Attorney General. We must be able, at any time, to provide reports or status to the White House,
the Deputy Attorney General, or the Attorney General on status of political appointees. We can
access PATS by name and/or social security number. SOURCES OF DATA: The primary source of information contained in PATS is personal
information on each individual, along with the information pertinent to the position he or she
holds. RESPONSIBLE OFFICE FOR DISTRIBUTING INFORMATION (if different from
