Marblehead Man Sentenced in Federal Court

JUL 18 -- BOSTON, MA - A Marblehead man was sentenced late yesterday in U.S. District Court for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, distribution of oxycodone, and aiding and abetting.

Kevin L. Lane, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - New England Field Division and United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan , announced that JORGE GONZALEZ MEDRANO, age 44, of 37 Smith Street, Marblehead, Massachusetts, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William G. Young to seven years’ imprisonment, to be followed by two years of supervised release, and to pay a special assessment of $300 . On April 4, 2008, MEDRANO pled guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, two counts of distribution of oxycodone, and aiding and abetting.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial, the Government’s evidence would have proven that between June and September of 2006, MEDRANO conspired with others to distribute, and distributed, large amounts of Oxycodone, a prescription pain medication. The evidence would have proven that MEDRANO was responsible for distributing between 2,000 and 5,000 oxycodone pills.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Worcester Tactical Diversion Squad in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Unit Assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, the Lynn Police Department and the Marblehead Police Department.
