friendly page] West Frankfort Man Sentenced on Marijuana Offense JUL 01 -- E. St. Louis, IL - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on June 26, 2008, Adolph B. PAULSON, age 34, of West Frankfort, Illinois, was sentenced in United States District Court in East St. Louis, Illinois. PAULSON, who had previously pled guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute 1,000 or more kilograms of marihuana, was sentenced to 174 months imprisonment, 5 years supervised release, and was fined $300. The District Court also entered a $4,000,000 forfeiture order against PAULSON. Seven co-defendants have previously been sentenced to imprisonment for their role in the marihuana conspiracy. One co-defendant is set to enter a guilty plea on July 24, 2008. The investigation is being conducted by the Illinois State Police, COMIT Drug Task Force, Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration pursuant to their participation in the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative. The goal of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is to remove illegal guns and drugs from our communities. Under the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative, federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutors are working together to prosecute drug dealers, felons in possession of firearms, and criminals that use firearms to commit violent offenses or drug trafficking offenses in the system that will get them the most time. The case is prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson. ###
