Davenport Man Sentenced on Federal Drug and Gun Charges

JUL 07 -- Davenport, IA - On July 7, 2007, Joseph Lee POWERS, 27, of Davenport, Iowa, and formerly of Iowa City, Iowa, was sentenced to one day imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and sixty months imprisonment for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. The sixty month sentence is to be served consecutive to the one day sentence for a total of sixty months and one day imprisonment. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Powers to serve a three year term of supervised release following his incarceration and to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund. This investigation was conducted by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the Iowa City, IA, Police Department.
