ABSTRACT: The Hazardous Waste
Disposal System is automated and maintains information on various phases
of clandestine drug laboratory seizures by tracking and monitoring
the processing of payments, contractor performance and container trends
(e.g., number, cost, location, etc.) associated with clandestine drug
laboratories. The Hazardous Waste Disposal Unit utilizes the system
to assist in the management of an annual budget of approximately $10,000,000.
PURPOSE: Records are maintained
in this system to ensure DEA's compliance with the Environmental Protection
Act, the Department of Transportation and other regulatory entities.
Also, this system tracks containers and expenditures as they pertain
to hazardous waste cleanup and the disposal of chemicals seized at
clandestine drug laboratories.
ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: All records
in the system are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate
administrative, physical, and technical safeguards. These safeguards
include restricting access to those with a need-to-know to perform
their official duties, using passwords, network administrative functions
and/or encrypting data communications.
USE CONSTRAINTS: Users of the
database will be restricted to only those privileges necessary to perform
assigned tasks.
AGENCY PROGRAM: The Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) enforces the controlled substances laws, and regulations
by prosecuting individuals and companies ( i.e., those involved in
the growth, manufacture and/or distribution) who violate the controlled
substances laws or those who are destined for the illicit trafficking
of controlled substances within the United States. This system is one
of the tools used by HWDS to accomplish the mission of the agency.
SOURCE OF DATA: Data contained
in the system is the result of DEA investigations and data provided
by federal, state, local, criminal justice agencies, noncriminal justice
