ABSTRACT:
A centralized automated file of summaries of reports on subjects of
interest to DEA, consisting of over 5.9 million subjects on individuals,
businesses, vessels, aircraft and selected airfields identified through
the DEA investigative reporting system, and related investigative records.
PURPOSE: Information is maintained
to record and document the results of inquiries that result in arrest
and seizures as a result of a criminal investigation or to obtain intelligence
information for a prospective investigation.
ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: All records
in the system are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate
administrative, physical, technical safeguards. These safeguards include
restricting access to those with a need-to-know to perform their official,
duties, using locks and alarm devices, password and/or encrypting data
communications.
USE CONSTRAINTS: Use of the system
is restricted to those authorized to perform assigned tasks.
AGENCY PROGRAM: The Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) enforces the controlled substances laws and regulations
of the United States. It is one of the principal investigative arms
of the Department of Justice. It is charged with gathering and reporting
facts, locating witnesses, and compiling evidence in criminal and civil
matters in which the Federal Government is, or may be, an interested
party. This system is one of the tools utilized to accomplish this
mission.
SOURCE OF DATA: Data contained
in the system is the result of investigations conducted by the DEA
Field Division Offices and data provided by federal, state, local,
criminal justice agencies, noncriminal justice agencies, and international
records.
