DEA
Administrator Karen Tandy appeared at historic Faneuil Hall in Boston
to take part in an anti-drug summit of New England governors hosted by
John Walters, the director of National Drug Control Policy.
Administrator
Tandy was on the first panel to discuss “Heroin Use in New England.”
On the panel with the Administrator were Boston Police Commissioner Paul
E. Evans and Registered Nurse Janice F. Kauffman. The subsequent panels
addressed “Access to Recovery” and “Marijuana as Medicine.”
Administrator
Tandy told the governors that cheap, pure heroin was a problem in New
England and that DEA was taking the steps necessary to fight the transportation
of heroin directly into New England. One of the initiatives discussed
by the Administrator was the formation of financial investigation groups
in each division, in order to focus on the money. “Focusing on the
money” she told the governors, would put these criminal organizations
that traffic this heroin out of business.
