DEA Louisville Task Force Dismantles Polydrug Operation

Louisville, KY- On December 5, 2002, The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Louisville Task Force, the United States Attorneys Office for the Western District of Kentucky, and the Kentucky State Police announced the culmination of a long-term investigation into a large-scale marijuana and cocaine trafficking organization operating in southern Kentucky. As part of this multi-jurisdictional, multi-agency investigation, ten search warrants were executed on December 4th, 2002 at locations throughout Washington, Nelson, Marion and Jefferson Counties. One subject was arrested for state weapons charges and turned over to the Kentucky State Police.

These search warrants resulted in the seizure of:

  • 8 ounces of cocaine
  • 20 pounds of marijuana
  • Oxycontin tablets
  • $27,000 in suspected drug proceeds
  • eight firearms seized
  • four vehicles seized

"This investigation will have a significant impact on the quality of life for the residents of South Central Kentucky who deserve to raise their families in a safe and secure environment," said Michael A. Braun, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Detroit Field Division, which oversee Michigan, Kentucky, and Ohio DEA offices.

"This case could not have been successfully concluded without the cooperative efforts of all the law enforcement agencies involved. Drug trafficking organizations have become too sophisticated to be dismantled without combining federal and local resources to maximize the positive impact on the community," said Tony King, Resident Agent in Charge of the DEA Louisville Office.

Other agencies that participated in this investigation include:

  • Southern Indiana Drug Task Force
  • Hardin County Drug Task Force
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • Immigration and Naturalization Service
  • Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Narcotics
  • Jefferson County Sheriffs Department
  • Kentucky National Guard
