Myrtle Beach Pharmacist Indicted for Drug Tampering

MAR 3 -- COLUMBIA, South Carolina -- Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald announced that a federal grand jury indicted Harold Gillung, age 49, of Myrtle Beach, for drug tampering.

Investigators allege that between February and August 2006, Gillung stole meprozine from customers’ prescriptions while working at a CVS pharmacy, emptying the prescribed meprozine from capsules and substituting hydrocodone powder.

The maximum penalty Gillung could receive is 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration - Diversion Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. Day, II, of the Florence office has been assigned to prosecuted the case.

Mr. McDonald stated that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant charged is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
