Albany State University Employee And Students Sentenced To Federal Prison For Dealing Drugs On Campus

APR 14 - United States Attorney Maxwell Wood announces the sentencing of Debra Berry, age 45, of Albany, Georgia, Montcrief Hart, age 25, of Lilburn, Georgia, and Christopher Henderson, age 20, of Hampton, Georgia before the Honorable W. Louis Sands of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.

Berry was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment; Hart was sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment; and Henderson was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.

Berry was employed by Albany State University in the student union. In a plea agreement Berry acknowledged that she sold marijuana, ecstacy and crack cocaine to an undercover police officer who posed as a student of the university. Henderson and Hart also entered plea agreements wherein Henderson acknowledged helping Berry sell marijuana and Hart acknowledged helping Berry sell Ecstacy to the undercover officer. All of the transactions occurred inside the student union on campus.

The cases were investigated by the Albany State University Police Department with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Albany Police Department, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Marshals Service. Assistant United States Attorneys Jason M. Ferguson and Leah McEwen prosecuted the cases.
