Two Norwich Residents Plead Guilty to Federal Narcotics Charges

APR 28 -- June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that BOBBY TUCKER, 21, and LAUREN TIPTON, 20, both of Norwich, each pleaded guilty yesterday before United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to one count of possession of 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack”) and a quantity of cocaine.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on April 13, 2007, Norwich Police responded to TUCKER and TIPTON’s apartment at 28 Williams Street in Norwich after being advised of complaints regarding the smell of marijuana emanating from the apartment and indications that the occupants of the apartment may have been engaging in drug dealing. A subsequent court-authorized search of the apartment revealed approximately 70 grams of crack cocaine, more than 130 grams of cocaine, marijuana, narcotics paraphernalia, and $27,200 in cash.

The cash will be forfeited to the United States as part of the plea agreement.

Judge Hall has scheduled sentencing for July 11, 2008, at which time each defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of life and a fine of up to $4,000,000.

This case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Norwich Police Department.
