Hartford Man Found With Seven Kilos of Cocaine Sentenced
to 10 Years in Federal Prison

JUL 11 -- June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Adminsitration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that NORMAN De La CRUZ-DOMINGUEZ, age 35, of Hartford, was sentenced yesterday, July 9, by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 120 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release. On February 12, 2007, De La CRUZ-DOMINGUEZ pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, in December 2005, De La CRUZ-DOMINGUEZ was arrested in Hartford on an outstanding warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts for a violation of supervised release that had been imposed pursuant to a prior federal conviction in Massachusetts. At the time of his arrest, federal agents conducted a search of an Adelaide Street apartment that De La CRUZ-DOMINGUEZ was in the process of renovating and discovered approximately seven kilograms of cocaine secreted in a compartment being built into a wall.

De La CRUZ-DOMINGUEZ was sentenced to 120 months of imprisonment on the cocaine conspiracy charge, and a concurrent term of 18 months of imprisonment for violating the conditions of his supervised release from the prior conviction.

This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
