Worcester Man Charged in
Federal Court in Narcotics Case

JUL 21 - Boston, MA... A Worcester man was charged today in federal court with possessing crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge of the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration in New England; United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan; Worcester County District Attorney John Conte and, Worcester Police Chief Gerald Vizzo announced today that ALEXIS MORALES, age 23, of 28 Lakeside Avenue, Worcester, was charged in a criminal Complaint with possessing approximately one ounce of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute.

The Complaint alleges that on June 7, 2004, Worcester police officers stopped a car on Laurel Street because one of the occupants was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. When officers made the stop, they saw and recovered a number of individual bags of crack cocaine packaged for distribution. It is alleged that the packages contained crack cocaine and belonged to MORALES, who was also an occupant of the stopped car. If convicted on these charges, MORALES faces up to 40 years’ imprisonment, to be followed by 4 years of supervised release, and a $2 million fine.

The case was investigated by the Worcester Police Department, with assistance from the Worcester Office of the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and was the product of ongoing cooperation between the U. S. Attorney’s Office and Worcester District Attorney Conte’s Office to investigate drug trafficking in Worcester. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney David Hennessy of Sullivan’s Worcester Office.
