Hartford Man Charged with Crack Distribution

June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that a federal grand jury sitting in Hartford has returned a one-count Indictment charging ERIC D. COX, also known as “Chaos,” age 23, of 73 James Street, Hartford, with possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of cocaine base (“crack” cocaine). The Indictment was returned yesterday, September 27.

The Indictment alleges that COX possessed the crack cocaine on or about June 10, 2006.

If convicted, COX faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years, a maximum term of 40 years, and a fine of up to $2,000,000.

U.S. Attorney O’Connor stressed that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the Government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Hartford Police Department.
