Waterbury Man Sentenced to More Than 12 Years in Federal Prison
for Heroin Trafficking

DEC 5 -- June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that WILLIAM RAMOS, also known as “Lule,” 32, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in United States District Court in New Haven to 151 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. On June 7, 2007, RAMOS pleaded guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin. RAMOS, who previously had been convicted of multiple felonies, was sentenced as a career offender under federal sentencing guidelines.

On October 4, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging RAMOS and several other individuals with various narcotics offenses involving the distribution of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin in central Connecticut. During the course of a 10-month investigation, law enforcement officers conducted multiple controlled purchases of heroin from RAMOS in Waterbury. The investigation also revealed that RAMOS was supplying distribution quantities of heroin to other individuals in Waterbury.

This investigation was a collaborative effort of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Waterbury Police Department and the Meriden Police Department.
