Meriden Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Crack Distribution Charge

DEC 6 -- June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that WILFREDO ABRAHANTE, 28, of South Colony Road, Meriden, Connecticut, pleaded guilty today before Senior United States District Judge Peter C. Dorsey to one count of conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”). ABRAHANTE pleaded guilty prior to jury selection for his federal trial, which was scheduled to commence on December 17, 2007.

On October 4, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging ABRAHANTE and several other individuals with various narcotics offenses involving the distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine in central Connecticut. The charges against ABRAHANTE stem from intercepted telephone conversations between him and his customers in May and June 2006. ABRAHANTE’s cellular telephone was the target of a joint wiretap investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration.

Judge Dorsey has scheduled sentencing for February 22, 2008, at which time ABRAHANTE faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a maximum term of life and a fine of up to $4,000,000.

This investigation was a collaborative effort of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Meriden Police Department.
