friendly page] Joint Law Enforcement Effort Results In Federal Prison Time For Central Illinois Drug Dealers FEB 28 -- (Kankakee, IL) - Five Kankakee area men have been sentenced on federal drug charges in the Central District of Illinois on charges stemming from multiple investigations conducted by the DEA and Kankakee Area Metro Enforcement Group. The defendants were handed their sentences by Chief Federal Judge Michael P. McCuskey over the past two weeks. The sentencings are the culmination of three separate investigations that involved undercover purchases of narcotics from the defendants. One investigation charged Ozana Soloman, 33, with possession with intent to distribute cocaine base (or “crack” cocaine). Soloman was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison with 8 years supervised release. The second investigation charged Jose Rios, 36, and Gerardo Lugo, 25, with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Rios was sentenced to 324 months with 5 years supervised release; co-conspirator Lugo, 25, was sentenced to 162 months and 5 years supervised release. The third investigation charged Jose Guerrero, 33, and Pedro Gaytan, 40, with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Both Guerrero and Gaytan were sentenced to 70 months in prison and 5 years supervised release, and will be deported from the United States upon serving their sentences. “These three investigations show the success of working in a law enforcement partnership,” stated Gary G. Olenkiewicz, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Chicago Field Division. “The DEA will continue working with the Kankakee Area Metro Enforcement Group and the US Attorney’s office in the Central District to keep illegal narcotics from the streets of Illinois and elsewhere.” The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy Bass and Eugene Miller.
