friendly page] Indianapolis Man Sentenced For Methamphetamine Trafficking MAR 28 -- (Indianapolis, IN) – An Indianapolis man has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Larry J. McKinney following the defendant’s guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Jose Nunez, 21, was sentenced to 135 months federal imprisonment and four years supervised release for his role in an Indianapolis-based methamphetamine distribution organization. Methamphetamine, also known by the street names of meth, crank, speed, ice, glass, or tweek, is a highly addictive stimulant. Some of the effects of meth use include violent behavior, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, hallucinations, and paranoia. Withdrawal symptoms include depression, anxiety, fatigue, aggression, paranoia, and intense cravings. “Methamphetamine brings chaos into the lives of those who are addicted to or live around it,” stated Gary G. Olenkiewicz, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Chicago Field Division which covers the state of Indiana. “Jose Nunez’ arrest and sentencing should be a warning to anyone thinking of polluting our communities with this addictive substance. DEA, along with our law enforcement partners are committed to investigating illegal organizations that profit from the distribution of methamphetamine and other illegal and dangerous narcotics.” Nunez’ sentencing is the result of a five month investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Metropolitan Drug Task Force. The investigation revealed an illegal drug organization that was responsible for distributing approximately 40 pounds of methamphetamine every six weeks in the Indianapolis area from November 2006 to February 2007. Nunez was a methamphetamine distributor for the organization, and was arrested following an undercover purchase of one pound methamphetamine from him on February 20, 2007. An additional two pounds of methamphetamine was seized incident to the arrest of Nunez. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley A. Blackington who prosecuted the case for the government, Nunez is in the United States illegally, and will be deported following the completion of his sentence. XXX |
