New Mexico Man Gets 3 Years in Prison for Drugs
Stemming from I-40 Traffic Stop

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA - United States Attorney Sheldon J. Sperling announced FERNANDO MAURICIO CARRILLO-CANDIA, age 26, of Deming, New Mexico, was sentenced today for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) & (b)(1)(C) and 18 U.S.C. § 2.

“The Honorable Ronald A. White sentenced CARRILLO-CANDIA to thirty-six (36) months imprisonment, thirty-six months supervised release, and ordered to pay a special assessment fee of $100.00,” commented U.S. Attorney Sperling. “CARRILLO-CANDIA pled guilty to the charge in May 2006.”

“The charges arose from an investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The defendant was stopped on I-40 for a traffic violation. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed approximately 102 kilograms of marijuana,” recalled U.S. Attorney Sperling.

“Assistant United States Attorney Dennis Fries represented the government at today’s sentencing.”
