Dallas Division
James L. Capra, a native of New York, received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marist College and a Master of Arts in Education from Seton Hall University. Prior to his law enforcement career, Mr. Capra served in the United States Navy, the United States Navy Reserve, the Air National Guard, and as a Military Intelligence Officer with the United States Army Reserves.
Mr. Capra began his federal law enforcement career in the New York Field Division in 1987. Upon graduating from Basic Agent training, he was assigned to the Los Angeles Field Division. In 1996, Mr. Capra was promoted to the position of Group Supervisor in the Newark Field Division where he developed the Division’s methamphetamine strategy and established a Clandestine Laboratory Group.
In 1999, Mr. Capra was assigned to DEA Headquarters where he served as a Staff Coordinator in the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs. In August of 2000,
Mr. Capra was promoted as the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Operations. In August 2002, Mr. Capra was selected by Administrator Asa Hutchinson to serve as the Chief of Domestic Operations. In this position, Mr. Capra was responsible for programmatic oversight of the DEA’s domestic enforcement operations carried out in the United States. In June 2004, Mr. Capra was selected by Administrator Karen P. Tandy to fill the position of Associate Special Agent in Charge in the DEA’s Miami Field Division. In May of 2006, Mr. Capra was selected by Administrator Tandy to fill the position of Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas Field Division. The DEA Dallas Field Division is comprised of the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas and the State of Oklahoma. Mr. Capra is married and has six children.
