Business Partner to Educate Businesses
About Methamphetamine at Retail Conference
Salt
Lake City – Barry R. Jamison, Assistant Special Agent in Charge
of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Salt Lake City District
Office along with representatives from Intermountain Farmers Country
Stores, Wal-Mart, 7 Eleven, Harmon’s, Kmart, Walgreens, Tesoro,
Checker Auto Parts, Utah Food Industry Association, C-A-L Ranch Stores,
Smith’s Food Stores, Costco Wholesale, Albertsons, Steve Regan
CO, Flying J Inc. announced a Methamphetamine Retail Industry Conference
at the Red Lion Inn, Salt Lake City, Utah.
The conference provides
an overview of the methamphetamine problem; a clandestine laboratory
demonstration; legal information, as it relates to the retail industry;
and issues relating to the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine in
the state of Utah.
Opportunities will
be provided for participants from the retail industry, state and federal
regulatory and law enforcement agencies to share information and build
networks in support of efforts to stem the illicit production and use
of methamphetamine.
“We can’t
afford to be in this fight alone,” said Assistant Special Agent
in Charge Jamison. “Only by teaming with our local counterparts
in business, government, and community will we see results in stopping
illegal methamphetamine.”
The conference initiated
by DEA is hosted by the businesses listed above and the Utah Division
of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Utah Controlled Substance
Precursor Board, Utah State Bureau of Investigation, Utah Council for
Crime Prevention, United States Attorney’s Office, Utah Attorney
General’s Office, Utah County Major Crimes Task Force, Weber
Morgan Narcotics Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration
Metro Narcotics Task Force.
The conference is
designed specifically for the retail industry that is dealing with
precursor chemicals and laboratory supplies used in the illicit production
of methamphetamine.
