Boulder Ecstasy Clandestine Lab Seized
Residence Containing the Lab Located Only 40 Yards from Middle School

AUG 14 -- (DENVER) – Jeffrey D. Sweetin, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Rocky Mountain Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced today the seizure of a clandestine ecstasy lab from a private residence in Boulder, Colorado. The seizure was the result of a joint investigation with officers of the Boulder County Drug Task Force (BCDTF).

According to SAC Sweetin, a state search warrant was executed this morning on a residence located at 720 S. 46 th Street in Boulder. The residence was located only 40 yards from Summit Middle School. Arrested at the residence were Debra Cerio, 42, and Carl Dubois, 29, both of Boulder. Agents seized chemicals and materials from the residence which were estimated to have the potential to produce 50,000 to 80,000 dosage units of ecstasy.

"Once again we can see how the activities of drug traffickers can endanger the public - and in this case, children attending school - for the purpose of profiting from the manufacture of illegal drugs,” said SAC Sweetin.

Cerio and Dubois were charged with Manufacturing a Schedule I Controlled Substance, a class 3 felony; Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Substance, a class 3 felony; and Conspiracy to Manufacture a Schedule I Controlled Substance, a class 4 felony under Colorado state law.

Also assisting at the scene were members of the Boulder Fire and Rescue’s Hazmat team, Pridemark Paramedics, Boulder Emergency Squad, Boulder Police and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Reserve unit.

The charges are only allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. For additional information, please contact the Rocky Mountain Field Division Public Information Officer at 303-705-7446.
