friendly page] Detroit Field Division Celebrates Black History Month
During the celebration, invocation was presented by Reverend Mr. Alex C. Jones of Saint Suzanne, Saint Mary of Redford and Saint Thomas Aquinas Parishes, City of Detroit. An inspirational poem was recited by Deborah Holt-Foster, Principal for Michigan Center for Literacy. Ms. Alexjandria Edwards, a fifth grade honor student, also delivered two outstanding solo vocal performances.

February 22 -- Black History Month was celebrated by the personnel of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Detroit Field Division. Guests included other law enforcement leaders, as well as employees from the federal community. The theme this year is “Celebrating Community: A Tribute to Black Fraternal, Social and Civic Institutions”. DEA Detroit was fortunate to have as keynote speaker Ronald C. Woods, J.D., Department Head of the Department of African American Studies at Eastern Michigan University. Professor Woods delivered an inspirational speech, which included his personal pictures and experiences while visiting Robben Island Prison (site of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration) and Pollsmoor Prison in South Africa. Professor Woods has an extensive record of board service for educational, cultural, and humanitarian institutions. He also has published in the area of refugee policy and civil rights. Professor Woods has lectured internationally, and serves as a scholar-consultant to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit.
