friendly page] DEA Detroit Helps Kids In Need For Christmas Ms. Manley began the program as a simple way to help provide kids from the Detroit area with such essentials as a warm winter coat, hat and mittens. Over the years, our employees have provided these essentials to hundreds of kids living in the Detroit area. Three years ago, Ms. Manley helped to form an alliance between the DEA Detroit Office and Operation Focus Hope. Focus Hope is a non-profit, grass-roots organization which began after the 1967 riots in Detroit to ensure civil and human rights and provide job training to underprivileged members of our community. Focus Hope provides a multitude of social assistance programs including a Center for Children, Hope Food Program and Center for Advanced Technologies Training Center. Operation Focus Hope has evolved into a national, model initiative for community assistance and its programs have been duplicated in 27 states and 2 foreign countries. A record 73 DEA employees in Detroit answered the call this year to help clothe needy kids with warm new clothing. The executive board of Focus Hope has voiced their sincere appreciation for the tremendous generosity exhibited by our employees. This worthwhile initiative has left our DEA family here in Detroit with a true sense of joy and satisfaction during this special time of year. Special Agent in Charge Michael Braun summed it up best when he said, "this is proof that there really is a Santa."
