Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tony Scott welcomes the audience to the Strengthening Communities Conference

APR 21 -- Due to the alarming levels of drugs, gangs and violence in the 5th Ward/Denver Harbor area of Houston, Texas the Houston FD Demand Reduction Unit collaborated with the Houston Independent School District – Safe & Drug Free Schools and Communities Department, Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans and Mothers Against Drug Driving to sponsor the Strengthening Communities Conference. This conference was designed to help mobilize members of the community to actively participate in the safety and productivity of their community. Local community leaders, prevention/intervention and health care experts discussed the risks involved in illegal drug use, violent behaviors, and the benefits of making healthy choices. The conference also provided resources detailing solutions to many of the problems affecting their neighborhoods. DEA provided lock boxes to all participants as a preventative measure against prescription drug theft.
