“Our goal is to increase public awareness of the DEA, what we do locally and worldwide,” said SAC Timothy J. Landrum. “To successfully accomplish our very critical mission, it is vital that we receive the support of those in our communities. The Academy offers a rare opportunity to look inside the DEA, as well as provide a detailed understanding of the intricacies involved in global drug law enforcement.” The Los Angeles DEA Citizens’ Academy, which was held at various locations throughout the Los Angeles area, used an energetic “hands on” instructional approach to DEA’s worldwide mission. The class size was limited in order to maximize the learning experience and encourage class participation. Classes began January 29, 2008, and were held one night per week for eight weeks. The course included lectures and various activities outside the classroom, such as training and presentations related to firearms, surveillance, and enforcement tactics. # # #
