West Palm Beach Attorney Sentenced for Aiding Drug Trafficker

FEB 20 -- Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Miami Field Division and R. Alexander Acosta, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, announced that on February 16, 2007, West Palm Beach attorney John A. Garcia was sentenced after an earlier guilty plea to all four counts of a criminal information. Garcia pled guilty to three counts of illegal structuring of cash deposits to avoid a currency transaction report, and one count of making a false statement to DEA agents. As part of the resolution, Garcia paid a total of $75,000 in criminal forfeitures. Garcia was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison, to be followed by two years supervised release.

Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the DEA West Palm Beach Resident Office Task Force.
