NYFD Celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month

OCT 26 -- For the past sixteen years, the NYFD has been celebrating and recognizing the many contributions of Hispanic Americans. On October 25, 2007, the NYFD accredited those who were in the audience and reflected on those in our past.

The event began with the National Anthem being sung and the presentation of the Flag by the Ceremonial Unit of the New York City Police Department. Presentations were made by Chief Raymond Diaz, Commanding Officer, Patrol Borough Manhattan North NYPD, Ralph Irrizary, band director and the Honorable Adolfo Carrion, Bronx Borough President. Subsequent to the presentations the NYFD watched Luis Aguilar and Anya Katsevnan dance to Latin music.

Not only was there music and dancing, NYFD employees and guests could watch employees of La Casa Grande Cigars rolling cigars which were handed out to those who wanted to bring them home. Latin food was served by the Hispanic Heritage Committee at the end of the celebration, where NYFD employees gathered. It was a good time had by all.

They have enriched the American experience and excelled in business, law, politics, education, community service, the arts, science and many other fields. During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to our country and we applaud the accomplishments of Hispanic Americans. Thank you for all you do,” stated SAC Gilbride.
