MEDIA ADVISORY Teen Leaders To Graduate From “Teens In Prevention” (Tip) PHOENIX – Approximately 35 teen leaders representing Ironwood High School will graduate from DEA’s Teens in Prevention (TIP) NETWORK, an intense two-day training program sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Arizona Chapter (PFDA). “Teens in Prevention” (TIP) is a Youth Driven, Community Supported NETWORK of prevention advocates who seek and implement solutions to substance abuse and violence. Multiple School-Based Organizations (SBOs) form a Regional Chapter and each Regional Chapter becomes part of the greater NETWORK. This will be the first Regional Chapter established in Arizona This cadre of teen leaders armed with a school-based, community supported prevention plan, will implement their plan at Ironwood High School and begin recruiting other students to become part of their school-based organization. By focusing on individual responsibility, positive peer pressure and community involvement, area teens become part of the solution to substance abuse and violence. If teens can talk teens into using drugs, logical reasoning suggests that teens can talk teens OUT of using drugs! The DEA recognizes that the complex drug trade, where elements of both supply and demand are seamlessly interwoven, can be successfully confronted only through a combination of tough law enforcement, prevention and treatment. The Partnership for a Drug-Free America is a long-time partner of the DEA’s Demand Reduction Program at both the national and local level. The role of the Partnership is to reduce illicit drug use through research-based programs. Members of the media are invited to attend the graduation and meet with teen leaders, school officials and community leaders participating in the school-based organizations.
