Red Ribbon Week Kicks Off At Raymond Case Elementary School

WHO:

  • California Red Ribbon Coalition Speakers. The Red Ribbon Coalition includes members of the Attorney General’s Crime & Violence Prevention Center, California Border Alliance Group, California Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement, California Department of Education, Californians for Drug-Free Youth, California Friday Night Live Partnership, California National Guard, California Parent-Teacher Association, Drug Enforcement Administration, The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Sundt Memorial Foundation, and the Enrique S. Camarena Educational Foundation.

WHAT:

  • The Red Ribbon Coalition will kick off national Red Ribbon Week at Raymond Case Elementary School, in Elk Grove. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated across the nation beginning October 22 and this year marks the 22nd anniversary of the campaign. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s largest drug prevention effort, which began after drug traffickers in Mexico kidnapped, tortured and brutally murdered DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in March 1985. The campaign is dedicated to helping preserve Special Agent Camarena’s memory and further the cause for which he gave his life, the fight against the violence of drug crime and the misery of addiction. By gathering together in special events and wearing a Red Ribbon during the last week in October, Americans from all walks of life demonstrate their opposition to drugs.

  • Some highlights at Raymond Case Elementary School will be Helicopters, DEA Stranger Danger, K-9 Unit Demonstrations, a Ghillie Low Crawl Team Demo, DEA Methamphetamine Laboratory Truck Display, Knight Armor Vehicle Display along with various police vehicles.
