Barrow Man Convicted by Jury of Methamphetamine and Firearm Charges

JUL 24 -- (Anchorage, AK) – DEA Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Arnold R. Moorin and the United States Attorney for the District of Alaska, Nelson P. Cohen, announced that on July 17, 2008, after deliberating six hours, a jury of nine found Jerry Lee Donovan guilty of one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and one count of being a felon in possession of firearms. Donvan will be sentenced by Judge Beistline on October 10, 2008.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) Harvey noted, “This is yet another good example of federal and local law enforcement combining forces with the end results being a safer community for all.”

On December 8, 2004, law enforcement searched Donovan’s residence and located methamphetamine that was packaged in individual bindles and staws for sale. Additionally, law enforcement located numerous firearms. Donovan is prohibited from owning firearms due to two previous felony convictions, one of which was related to illegal drugs.

Nelson P. Cohen commended the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the North Slope Borough Police Department for the investigation leading to the conviction of Donovan.
