Des Moines Man Sentenced for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetmine

MAR 10 -- DES MOINES, IA - On March 7, 2008, Byron Raymond Miller, age 42, of Des Moines, Iowa, was sentenced to a term of 360 months imprisonment for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered Miller to serve a five-year term of supervised release and imposed an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

On November 6, 2007, Miller was found guilty by a Southern District of Iowa jury of conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine. Evidence admitted during the trial, indicated that Miller transported two to five pound quantities of methamphetamine from Omaha, Nebraska to Des Moines, Iowa on at least 60 to 70 occasions over an 18 month period of time.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorneys Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Des Moines Police Department and the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force.
