Omaha Resident Sentenced to Ten Years for Distributing Methamphetamine

MAR 10 -- DES MOINES, IA - On March 7, 2008, CAROLINA HERRERA-ORTEGA, Citizen of Mexico, residing in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine in Western Iowa. United States District Court Chief Judge Robert Pratt also ordered Herrera-Ortega to serve a five year term of supervised release following incarceration and to pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

Herrera-Ortega entered a guilty plea to conspiring to distributing methamphetamine between March 2007 and April 2007 in Western Iowa. Herrera-Ortega along with her brother, Juan Antonio Navarrete-Ortega distributed methamphetamine received from Mexico through Omaha into Western Iowa. Juan Anonio Navarrete-Ortega was sentenced on January 22, 2008 to 36 months in prison.

The investigation was conducted by the SWINE Task Force, Bellevue Nebraska Police Department, Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
