Des Moines Man Convicted Of Conspiracy To Distribute Meth

NOV 8 -- DES MOINES, Iowa - On November 7, 2007, Byron Raymond Miller, age 42, of Des Moines, Iowa, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, following a jury trial in United States District Court, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. As a result of the juries’ verdict, Miller faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison up to life in prison, a maximum fine of not more than $4,000,000.00, or both such fine and imprisonment, a term of supervised release of at least 5 years, and a special assessment of $100.00 to the Crime Victim Fund.

During 2005 and 2006, Miller was a member of an organization responsible for the distribution of 30 to 40 pounds of methamphetamine in the Des Moines area.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the Des Moines Police Department, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
