2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). Formally created on January 9, 1983, following an internal reorganization of the Department of Justice, EOIR's functions long predate the Office itself. Throughout the past 40 years, dedication and hard work have supported the critical mission of administering our Nation's immigration laws. Throughout the agency's tenure, we have stayed true to our shared mission while making necessary adjustments due to statutory and regulatory changes and policy shifts and continuing to manage a formidable workload.
