NEW MEMBER APPOINTED TO BOARD OF IMMIGRATION APPEALS
FALLS CHURCH, VA -- The Board of Immigration Appeals announced the appointment of a
new Board Member today, completing the 15-Member panel. The newly appointed member is
Lori Scialabba, Deputy General Counsel, Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). She
joins the Board effective March 15, 1998.
Ms. Scialabba has been Deputy General Counsel for INS in Washington, D.C., since April 1994.
From 1991 to 1994, she served as Associate General Counsel, Civil Litigation Section, INS. Ms.
Scialabba worked as a Trial Attorney with the Department of Justice's Civil Division from 1989
to 1991. From 1986 to 1989, she served as Assistant General Counsel, INS.
Ms. Scialabba received her undergraduate degree in 1982 from the University of Maryland, and
her Juris Doctorate in 1985 from Memphis State University.
The Board of Immigration Appeals is part of the Executive Office for Immigration Review
located in Falls Church, Virginia. The Board comprises 15 Members, headed by Chairman Paul
W. Schmidt, and is responsible for hearing appeals of decisions rendered by Immigration Judges
or certain officers of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. It is the highest administrative
body for interpreting Federal immigration laws.
