ABSTRACT: The Horizon integrated library system provides staff of the Senior Management Offices of the Department and staff of the Offices, Boards, and Divisions with access to the holdings of all JMD Library Staff locations. This access is currently provided at all library locations via the online catalog module of Horizon. In the near future, online desktop access to these collections will be provided to Department personnel via the WebPac module of Horizon. In addition, the serials module currently provides serials management at the two largest Library Staff locations.

PURPOSE: The Horizon integrated library system was procured from Ameritech Library Services for the purpose of providing access to the holdings of all Library Staff collections. In addition, the Horizon software provides for the management of serials holdings and in the future will provide circulation services at all locations.

ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: Access to the Horizon online catalog is currently available only in JMD Library Staff locations. In the near future, Department personnel will have access to the online catalog from their desktop via the Justice Department Intranet.

AGENCY PROGRAM: The Horizon system supports all JMD libraries and their patrons including Senior Management Offices such as the Offices of the Attorney General and Solicitor General and Department personnel.

SOURCES OF DATA: The majority of the cataloging data contained in Horizon is obtained from OCLC located in Columbus, Ohio. The remaining cataloging data and all other data in Horizon are generated by the Technical Services Branch of the Library Staff.
