Washington, D.C. 20530 November 19, 2001 MEMORANDUM FOR BUREAU PERSONNEL OFFICERS FROM: Joanne W. SimmsEXECUTIVE OFFICERS OF THE Director, Personnel Staff Justice Management Division SUBJECT: Discontinuance of the Welfare to Work Hires Report Attached is a memorandum, dated November 15, 2001, from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) which discontinues the requirement for Federal agencies to submit a monthly Welfare to Work Hires Report to OPM's Office of Workforce Information. This means that OPM Form 1635, "Welfare to Work Program" which was used to report hires under this program will no longer be used. OPM will reflect this change as soon as possible by revising The Guide to the Central Personnel Data File Reporting Requirements. Questions concerning this matter may be referred to Robert F. Seymour, of the Department's Personnel Staff, on (202) 616-3706. November 15, 2001 [OPM] MEMORANDUM FOR WELFARE TO WORK REPORT CONTACTS FROM: LINDA M. BRICK, CHIEF SUBJECT: Welfare to Work Hires Report We are discontinuing the Welfare to Work Hires report effective immediately. We will reflect this change by revising The Guide to the Central Personnel Data File Reporting Requirements as soon as possible. As you know, the Welfare to Work initiative began in 1997. Agencies committed to hire 10,638 former welfare recipients over 4 years. In that fime, agencies actually hired 52,187 almost 5 times the original commitment. Thank you and all members of your staffs who worked so hard and achieved such significant success. You should be proud of the way your work has improved people's lives. On a personal note, I'd also like to thank you for all of your help over the years and, most particularly, for the kindness and patience you showed me in dealing with this extra reporting requirement. |
