Prisoner property is generally not accepted by the Marshal's Service. The exception to this are appropriate legal materials, limited prescribed medications, and checks issued from detention facilities.  Additional personal items are held for a 30 day period to allow for friends or relatives to pick up the items.  If the items aren't picked up, they are discarded per Marshal's Service policy.  On rare occasions, the USMS will mail such items to a family member or a friend of the defendant.
