Assistant Attorney General Brett C. Gerry
Brett Gerry assumed the responsibilities of Assistant Attorney General for Legal Policy at the United States Department of Justice on July 10, 2007. In this capacity, he manages the development of civil and criminal policy initiatives, the creation of departmental regulations, and the Department's role in the confirmation of the President's judicial nominees. Prior to assuming this position, he served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department's National Security Division, where he was responsible for creating and leading the new Division's Law and Policy Office.
Before joining the Department in September 2006, Mr. Gerry served
as an Associate Counsel to the President and, prior to that, was
Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Director of the Commission
on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding
Weapons of Mass Destruction. He also worked in private practice
for the Boston office of Goodwin Procter LLP. Mr. Gerry clerked
for Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy on the United States
Supreme Court and Judge Laurence H. Silberman on the United States
Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He received
his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served as Editor on the
Yale Law Journal and Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Journal on Regulation.
He also holds an M.A. in Political Science from Yale University
and a B.A. from Colgate University.
