DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDER TO HONOR CIVIL
RIGHTS PIONEER RUBY BRIDGES AT CEREMONY AT CORCORAN GALLERY OF ART
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder will join in honoring Ruby Bridges on the 40th anniversary of her historic walk into a formerly all-white school, which began the integration of the New Orleans public school system. To commemorate this anniversary, the Deputy Attorney General will make Ms. Bridges an Honorary U.S. Marshal at Thursday's ceremony.
The ceremony will be held at the Corcoran Gallery of Art where Norman Rockwell's depiction of this incident, entitled The Problem We all Live With, is on temporary exhibition. The ceremony, which begins at 4:00 p.m., will be held in the Frances and Armand Hammer Auditorium. This event coincides with the 17th Annual convention of the National Black Prosecutors' Association.
