JUSTICE DEPARTMENT NAMES EUBANKS

AS DIRECTOR OF TOBACCO LITIGATION TEAM

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Department of Justice announced today that Sharon Y. Eubanks, who has served as Deputy Director of the Tobacco Litigation Team, has been named Director of the Team. J. Patrick Glynn, who has served as Director, will return to his position as Torts Branch Director in charge of Environmental Torts.

"Sharon has been a key leader of this team," said Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Division David W. Ogden. "Her leadership, along with the work of the very talented group of career attorneys on the team, has contributed enormously to this litigation."

Glynn will return to his position as Director for Environmental Torts in the Torts Branch of the Civil Division. "The Department is grateful for Pat's efforts and dedication," said Ogden. "He is a very talented attorney and superb leader, and the Department is in his debt for his hard work. I am very happy he will resume his position as Branch Director for Environmental Torts."

Eubanks, a career attorney with the Justice Department since 1983, has been in the Civil Division continuously since joining the Department. She was handling complex commercial litigation as Deputy Director in the Commercial Litigation Branch from 1995 until joining the Tobacco Litigation Team.

There are currently 15 attorneys on the Tobacco Litigation Team, a number that is expected to increase as the case moves forward toward an anticipated January 2003 trial date.
