ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHCROFT ANNOUNCES

SENIOR APPOINTMENT

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Attorney General John Ashcroft today announced the appointment of Lori Sharpe to be Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Advisor to the Attorney General.

Sharpe previously acted as Director of Congressional Affairs for the U.S. Senate at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. Prior to that post, she served Ashcroft most recently as his Deputy Chief of Staff, and also as Legislative Counsel and Legislative Assistant for commerce and transportation issues.

"I had the distinct honor of having Lori in my office during my time in the Senate, and I look forward to working with her once again," Ashcroft said. "She brings a wealth of experience and a solid grasp of the difficult issues handled by the Justice Department. I am pleased to have found such a trusted advisor to lead the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs."

Sharpe will act as the Attorney General's primary liaison to various government organizations and play a key role in guiding the Justice Department's relationship with other agencies and the White House. She will also offer counsel to the Attorney General on matters of policy and intergovernmental affairs.

Sharpe received a B.A. in economics and a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma, where she served as president of the student body. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, she is a member of the Oklahoma and Missouri Bar Associations.
