STATEMENT OF ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL ROBERT MCCALLUM
IN RESPONSE TO TODAY'S RULING IN GLOBAL RELIEF FOUNDATION V. O'NEILL

"The Department of Justice is pleased that the Court's ruling today recognizes the long-established authority of the Federal Government to act swiftly to stop the flow of money to terrorists or others who threaten our national security. The Government's actions in freezing the accounts and records of Global Relief Foundation pending investigation, and blocking the funds of other supporters of terrorists acts, have constituted a critical part of our Nation's response to the attacks of September 11.

"The Department of Justice will continue to guarantee the rights of citizens of this country, while also ensuring that the Government is able to utilize every resource at its disposal to protect the safety of all Americans, and the interests of our allies, against the threat of terrorism."
