JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TAX DIVISION APPOINTS PATRICK F. HOFER
DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR POLICY AND PLANNING


Eileen J. O'Connor, the Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division, today announced the appointment of Patrick F. Hofer as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Policy and Planning. Mr. Hofer will assist the Assistant Attorney General in formulating new policies and initiatives, and in responding to and developing administrative and legislative proposals in areas of interest to the division.

“Pat brings over 15 years of complex litigation experience to this position and has demonstrated a keen appreciation and understanding of the many complex issues in federal taxation,” O'Connor said.

A native of New Mexico, Mr. Hofer received his B.A. degree in economics from the University of Virginia, where he also received his J.D. degree in 1986. A year later, he joined the firm of Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P., where he handled complex litigation involving corporate transactions and insurance disputes regarding the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, environmental law, and asbestos and product liability. He was named a partner in 1995.

Before joining Hogan & Hartson, he served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Frank W. Bullock, Jr., U.S. District Court judge in Greensboro, N.C. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia bars and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.
