ANTITRUST DIVISION NAMES NEW DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
FOR REGULATORY MATTERS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - R. Hewitt Pate, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division, today announced that J. Bruce McDonald will serve as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Regulatory Matters. McDonald will oversee airline, transportation, energy and other regulatory matters for the Division.

"Bruce has significant antitrust experience in regulated industries," said Pate. "He brings a wealth of insight and expertise to the Division."

Since 1990, McDonald has practiced at the Baker Botts L.L.P. law firm in Houston, where he is a partner in the firm’s antitrust group. He previously worked in the antitrust section of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue in Washington, D.C.

McDonald has extensive experience in dealing with various regulated industries, including aviation, transportation, energy, oil, health care, chemical, and telecommunications.

He has participated as a speaker in numerous seminars on antitrust trade regulation and civil and criminal law compliance and published several antitrust articles. He also has taught Antitrust and Trade Regulation as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center.

McDonald received his B.A. with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985, where he received his J.D. with honors in 1988. He was a member of the Order of the Coif and managing editor of The Review of Litigation. He also studied public and international law and European competition law at the University of London in 1997.

McDonald is a member of both the State Bar of Texas and District of Columbia Bar and has served on several American Bar Association antitrust committees. He was chairman of the Houston Bar Association Antitrust Section in 2002 and has served on its Council since 1997.
