WASHINGTON – A former contracting officer for the U.S. Department of the Army Information Technology Agency has been sentenced to two years in prison on a wire fraud charge, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg of the Eastern District of Virginia announced today.
Robert E. Johnson, Chief of Quality Assurance and Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative for the U.S. Department of the Army Information Technology Agency in Rosslyn, Va., was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., this morning by U.S. Judge James C. Cacheris. In addition to the two-year prison term, Johnson was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay more than $150,000 in restitution.
Johnson, 65, of Woodbridge, Va., pleaded guilty to the single count of wire fraud in June 2006. Johnson admitted that from 2000 to 2005, he used his official position to obtain more than $150,000 from the Army by directing two prime contractors to subcontract with two companies in which Johnson secretly held a financial interest. Johnson also admitted that he falsely certified that the prime contractors and their subcontractors had provided services to the government when, in fact, such services were not provided.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve A. Linick of the Eastern District of Virginia – now Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section – and Trial Attorney Ann C. Brickley of the Public Integrity Section of the Criminal Division.
This case is being investigated by Army Criminal Investigation Division, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the General Services Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
